Provo William Parry Wallis was born in Halifax (d. 1892). He became a notable Royal Navy officer who took part in the capture of the USS Chesapeake by the frigate HMS Shannon. After many exploits at sea and in battle, he became Admiral of the British Fleet in 1875 and died at the age of one hundred. (Also see The victorious Royal Navy, June 6, 1813.).
