Murdock Maxwell MacOrdum (1901–1955) submitted his MA thesis, entitled Survivals of English and Scottish Popular Ballads in Nova Scotia: A Study of Folk Song in Canada, at McGill University. He was inspired and influenced by William Roy Mackenzie’s book The Quest of the Ballad. (Also see William Roy Mackenzie, February. 14, 1883.) Dr. Helen Creighton would likewise be influenced by both Mackenzie’s and MacOrdum’s work. MacOrdum was born in Marion Bridge. He would become president of Carleton College (1947–1955). The library at Carleton University was named after him.
