Mi’kmaw Elder Noel Knockwood died at age eighty-one (b. 1932). Born in Shubenacadie, he was a Korean War veteran and a respected spiritual leader of the Mi’kmaq people. He also served as the first Aboriginal sergeant-at-arms for the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 2000 to 2005, and served on the Mi’kmaq Grand Council (from 1975).
