Old Town Lunenburg was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as one of the best surviving examples of a planned British colonial settlement in North America, established in 1753. It was listed as a “National Historic District” in 1992 by the federal government. On August 16, 1996, the distinctive UNESCO monument commemorating the official designation of Lunenburg as a World Heritage Site was unveiled in Lunenburg. (Photo: Lunenburg Waterfront.
