Springhill-born Anne Murray (b. 1945) received her Grammy Award in absentia in Los Angeles — the first solo Canadian female artist to reach number one on US charts and to achieve a gold record in the United States (Snowbird, in 1970). She has sold more than 55 million records, earning thirty-one Junos. She is a Companion of the Order of Canada, and a recipient of the Order of Nova Scotia (2002).
