Natalie MacMaster was born in Troy, Inverness County, Cape Breton. She began playing the fiddle at the age of nine and her musical career at sixteen. By 2017 the award-winning fiddler had created twelve albums and toured extensively with many international artists. She won numerous musical awards and was made a member of the Order of Canada in 2006. Her uncle was the late renowned Cape Breton fiddler Buddy MacMaster (see August 20, 2014) and she married fellow fiddler Donnell Leahy.
