Blanche Margaret Meagher (b. Halifax in 1911) was appointed ambassador to Israel (1958–1961) — Canada’s first woman ambassador. From 1969 to 1973 she was ambassador to Sweden, and served in Mexico and England. She was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1974.
