Thomas McCulloch died in Halifax (b. 1776). He was a prominent Presbyterian minister, educator, author and office holder. Born in 1776 in Scotland, he settled in Pictou in 1803. He became the principal of Pictou Academy and, in 1838, the first president of Dalhousie University. He was author of the satirical Letters of Mephibosheth Stepsure.
