PAUL MACEWAN was born in 1943. Together with Jeremy Akerman, he was the first NDP member of the Nova Scotia Legislative Assembly elected in history on October 13, 1970. With Mr Akerman, Mr MacEwan was re-elected by his Cape Breton N ova constituents in the 1974 and 1978 Nova Scotia elections, each time securing approximately fifty per cent of the vote in a three-way fight.
A school teacher before entering politics, Mr MacEwan has also had two other books published, Miners and Steelworkers: Labor in Cape Breton and Confederation and Maritimes. He has authored great numbers of articles and political pamphlets.
Mr MacEwan makes his home in Sydney's Whitney Pier district, and is a married father of four children.
